Big Game Fishing
Whether you’re just a beginner or an experienced fisherman, you’ll thoroughly enjoy yourself on fishing expedition with the Argola Fishing Team.
I have been fishing all my life, having tried my hand at different fishing techniques. When I caught my first Bluefin Tuna, I knew that I had found a side of fishing that’s truly fascinating. My favorite time is on the sea – going fishing with my long time friends. Imagine fighting with some of the biggest fish in the Adriatic Sea! We will teach and prepare you for your very first big catch.
We at Argola have the perfect combination of fishing knowledge and experience, as well as a deep love and respect for the sea. These components provide the necessary ingredients for an unforgettable adventure. Besides providing an adrenalin rush that you’ll never forget, big game fishing is an experience of untouched nature experienced by only a few. This popular sport may be enjoyed by all generations. The main object of our fishing trip are the Bluefin Tuna species, Amberjack, Swordfish, Bonito, Blue Shark, little Tunnies, Albacores and more. The Atlantic Bluefin is one of the most dominant Tuna species and it can be found in the entire Adriatic region. This species has chosen the Adriatic Sea for its home, so it’s not uncommon to catch the Bluefin at almost any time of year.
The name “Tuna” is very old, taking its roots from Ancient Greek philosopher and scientist Aristotle. Even in antiquity, Aristotle was quite fascinated by tuna’s long and fast swimming abilities. The name tuna is derived from an old Greek word which means the “hasty wanderer”. Leave it to us to find the right location where you can catch your very own “wanderer”.
In Big Game fishing there are several different fishing techniques:
TROLLING (panula) is a line method of fishing. The fishing lines are baited with lures or live bait, then gently pulled to the surface, teasing and inviting predators to attack. Many types of fish will be happy to pull this jig because its shape and motion provoke them to strike. This kind of fishing technique can give you some of the most exciting moments in your fishing “career”. The targeted fish for this type of activity is: Bluefin Tuna, ordinary Dolphin fish, Swordfish, Tunnies, Bonitos and others.
DRIFTING is a more traditional and the most widespread Big Game fishing style used in the Adriatic. Because it’s the most widespread, it is also the most successful. Giant Bluefin Tuna is a fierce fighter due to its weight, so this fishing technique is the best choice for catching some of the bigger species. Since our equipment is already in the sea, we are throwing baits from the floating boat inviting these large predators to come closer. When our echo-sounder recognizes the presence of an approaching fish, we are preparing for a real fight.
JIGGING is very popular fishing technique in recent years. A jig consists of a lead sinker coupled with a hook. Jigs are intended to create a jerky, vertical motion. For successful jigging, the jigger needs to use a rod which is good for feeling a bite. It needs to stay in contact with the jig and be able to deliver the system to exactly where the fish happen to be. We use this technique to catch Amberjack, Tuna, Red Snapper and Grouper. It’s actually a very demanding fishing technique and it requires great physical condition.
While the crew is waiting for the fish to bite, whoever is hungry may have a bite of something themselves! Yes, we do our best to take care of everything. Experience the true spirit of the sea and a sense of true adventure that will remain with you forever. All our fishing trips include everything you’ll need to catch fish: the latest fishing equipment, rods and reels, as well as bait.
Try your luck at big game fishing in the Adriatic with the Argola Fishing Team!
